ROLL CALL

A new name, and everyone’s photos of the day.

An outdooring in Ghana or a naming ceremony in Nigeria often starts early and is over by lunch. The prayers, the name being announced, the grandparents holding the baby: the photos end up on twenty phones across three family WhatsApp groups. Roll Call gives everyone there a disposable camera on their phone, and the morning develops in one gallery for the whole family, at home and abroad.

Small gatherings are free

Up to 10 guests with 10 shots each costs nothing. A bigger family gathering is one payment for the event.

Mum’s side and Dad’s side

Add teams if you like, and guests pick their family when they join. Or leave them off and everyone shoots one roll.

Kept private

Photos of a newborn deserve care. A private gallery opens only for the guests who were there and the relatives you invite by email.

A short event, a quick reveal

A naming ceremony moves fast, so the camera doesn’t need to stay open all day. Open it for the morning and choose when the photos appear:

  • When the camera closes, so the family sees everything over lunch.
  • At a set time that evening, once the visitors have gone home.
  • Straight away, if you’d rather see each photo as it’s taken.

For family who couldn’t be there

Grandparents abroad, an uncle who couldn’t get leave, friends from church: send them the gallery link and invite them by email to a private gallery. They see the whole morning, not just the three photos that made it into the WhatsApp group.

Where to put the QR code

There are often no tables at a naming ceremony, so put a printed sign by the entrance or where guests sit, and send the link in the family WhatsApp group the night before. Ask whoever is leading the ceremony to mention it once, before the prayers start.

HOW IT WORKS

Step by step, from setup to the reveal.

  1. ▸01 Create the event. Name, date, when the camera opens and closes, how many guests, and 10, 15, 24, 36 shots each. About two minutes. Up to 10 guests is free; bigger events are one payment.
  2. ▸02 Print the signs, or share the link. You get a QR code straight away, plus table tents and a welcome sign to print at home. The same code works for every guest, and the link works in a WhatsApp group.
  3. ▸03 Guests scan and join. They point their phone camera at the code and type their name. The camera opens in the browser: no app, no account.
  4. ▸04 Everyone shoots their roll. A fixed number of shots, no previews, no retakes. If the signal drops, photos wait on the phone and upload when it comes back.
  5. ▸05 Watch it fill up. Your live view shows shots landing as undeveloped negatives, and who has a camera. If every camera is taken, add more and the queue gets straight in.
  6. ▸06 Everything develops at once. At the time you chose, every roll appears in one gallery. Hide or delete anything, share the link, and download every photo at full size in one ZIP.

One payment per event, never a subscription. These are starting points: you set the guests, shots, how long the gallery is kept and whether it’s private, and the price follows. Cedi and naira prices are round local amounts, not converted from dollars, for hosts in Ghana and Nigeria. Hosts in Nigeria pay in naira by card. Paying in cedis by mobile money is on its way: until then, hosts in Ghana pay by card in dollars. Everyone else pays by card in dollars, pounds or euros.

Questions

Is it respectful to have guests taking photos?

That’s your family’s call. Many families are happy for guests to shoot, and a fixed roll with no previews means fewer phones held up the whole time. You can hide or delete any photo before you share the gallery.

Does it work for a christening or child dedication too?

Yes. It works the same way for any family gathering: one QR code, a camera on every phone, and every photo in one gallery.

Do guests need to download an app?

No. Guests scan the QR code on the table and the camera opens in their phone’s browser. They type their name and start shooting. No app store, no account, no password. It works on iPhone and Android.

How much does Roll Call cost?

Small events are free: up to 10 guests with 10 shots each. Bigger events are a one-off payment per event, never a subscription, priced by how many guests, how many shots each, how long the gallery is kept and whether it’s private. A 150-guest wedding with 24 shots each, kept private for a year, is $75.50, or GH₵1,160 in Ghana and ₦57,000 in Nigeria. We price in GHS, NGN, USD, EUR, GBP, KES and ZAR.

When do the photos appear?

At the reveal time you pick: midnight, the next morning, or whenever you say so. Until then every photo stays sealed, like film waiting to be developed. Nobody sees a thing, not even the host. Then the whole night appears at once in one shared gallery.

Why limit how many photos each guest can take?

It’s what makes a disposable camera fun. With a fixed roll and no previews, guests stop scrolling through retakes and shoot the moments that matter. You choose the roll: 10, 15, 24 or 36 shots each.

Load the film. We'll see you at the reveal.
